Cycling in Lanzarote

Lanzarote suits Cycle training and pleasure riding all year round but most come for the good winter weather.

Professional and amateur cyclists alike gain a lot of benefit by cycling in Lanzarote when their home weather is too cold. Muscles do not take kindly to exercising in the freezing cold.

The roads are in good condition and the local drivers give room and respect to cyclists.

Winter time has average temperatures of eighteen degrees centigrade with low winds and clear weather. The Summer months get warmer but cooling winds increase, sometime a bit too strong. Check the forecasts if you can be flexible on dates for Summer riding holidays.

The weather is reliably warm and almost always dry. Coldest time of year is late February and March. Most winds come in the main Summer months of July and August.

Cycling Routes

The Coastal roads are flatter. Inland around the Haria and Northern parts of the island have some great climbs and switchbacks. The famouts Tabayesco valley has a great climb that continues into Haria and ends at the highest part of the island.  Haria is also has some great local style bars for refreshments and a light lunch.

Once at the top you can enjoy some great views and even better have a lot of down hill sections ahead.
