Costa Teguise Is Lanzarote’s first and only purpose built tourist destination.

Originally made up of salt farms a property developer called, Rio Tinto, saw the potential and built the infrastructure that now makes up Costa Teguise. Construction started in the 1970’s with the islands first five star hotel of the Gran Melia Salinas with a guiding hand from Cesar Manrique. In the 1980’s it was mostly frequented by Northern European tourists from Germany and Scandinavia. By 2020 the permanent population had grown to 8,500 residents.

The town is located 12 kilometres north of Lanzarote airport on the East coast of Lanzarote..

There is a main town centre with the majority of town and tourist facilities, also there are some outlying area with shops and amenities.

Costa Teguise is the third busiest tourist resort in Lanzarote after Puerto del Carmen and Playa Blanca. It is suitable for families, singles and older holiday makers. There is good beach weather all year round. The temperature is kept comfortable by cooling summer breezes that abate in Winter to keep things warm.

Sports in Costa Teguise.

The wind, waves and sea in this area open up amazing facilities for all types of water sports.
Costa Teguise is a relatively small town with a lot to offer people with a wide variety of interests and needs. Sports people can Wing Foil, Windsurf, Surf, Swim, Kayak and Snorkel. If you are interested in any of these sports there are specialised sports centres next to Las Cucharas beach to hire equipment and get lessons from experts.

For serious walkers and those looking for a nice stroll

Stretching the full length of Costa Teguise is a lovely coastal walkway. Starting just North of Playa Los Charcos and stretching South out of Costa Teguise. The walkway take you past all of the beaches and many lovely beach front bars, shops, dive centres, wing foil and windsurf centres, pubs and restaurants.
If you wish to get off the beaten track there are many paths and tracks to explore. You can head North past the end of the coastal path and find some amazing, but less prepared, walks. For keener walkers there is a coast path heading many kilometres north as far as Arrieta and beyond opening up some rarely explored parts of the island.

Costa Teguise Beaches.

Playa Las Cucharas
This is the main and largest beach in Costa Teguise. The main aspect of the town is built around this beach. The white sand beach is split into two parts divided by a small stone jetty. Most of the right side of the beach has a string of buoys segregating the main swimming area. There is a lifeguard station located on the jetty in a stone built tower. Just inland from the lifeguards are the toilets.
Water colour is often sandy with poor snorkelling conditions.
On the whole the beach is pretty safe with few rips. Large and powerful waves sometimes break close to the sand and care needs to be taken.
Playa Las Cucharas is also a very good Wing Foil and Windsurf location. Inside the bay there is not too much wind but further out to sea are stronger winds and waves that the sports people look for and enjoy. Nearby there are lots of wing foil and windsurf schools where hire equipment and wing foil lessons are readily available.
Running the full length of the beach is a bicycle and pedestrian walkway with ample of beach front restaurants, bars and shops.
Further inland from the beach and promenade are several car parks always with enough space.

Playa Jablillo
Located the other side of the headline from Playa Las Cucharas and still very central. This is one of the safest beaches in Costa Teguise with its protective sea wall spanning the whole width of the bay. The water here is crystal clear and great for snorkelling. There are three areas around the beach where you can sunbathe. The northern side is very sheltered from the wind but entry to the water is across some rocks. The others beaches to the south side of this small bay can receive more wind but you can enter the water with ease and sunbathe on the golden, almost white, sand.
Parking is on the main road just next to the beach and access is direct. This is a very picturesque beach with all amenities very close by. On windy days with big waves this beach can still be enjoyed.

Playa Bastian
This beach is located about two kilometres south of Playa Jablillo. Access to the beach is via the coastal path or road with a large car park just inland from the beach.
The sandy part of the beach is around 500 meters long easy access to the sea is a small stretch with no rocks 30 meters wide.
Water is clear and snorkelling it good. Usually a safe beach with small to no waves except on occasion in winter.
There are local bars and restaurants and even a stunning James Bond like restaurant perched on the edge of the rocks with a fantastic sunset drinks terrace.
Usually there are less crowds here. Toilets and showers are close to hand on the beach.

Melia Salinas Beach
Officially this is part of Playa Las Cucharas but it feels and looks separate. From Las Cucharas beach facing the sea, walk around the coast to the left for about 400 meters. Go past the hotel and next to another sea wall is a lovely white sand beach. There are sun beds or sand to lay on. The beach is sheltered from the wind by the Melia Salinas hotel behind.

Markets

In the Centre of town is a pedestrian only Plaza called ‘Pueblo Marinero’. In the centre is a band stand surrounds by bars and restaurants. Every Friday, Tuesday morning and Wednesday a market takes place here. The market sells art, souvenirs and hand made crafted products.

Play Golf in Costa Teguise

Costa Teguise has its very own Golf Course. The 18 hole course is well tended and watered. All the holes added together give it a course length of 6,467 meters. There are four par three holes, four par five holes and ten par four holes with no par five holes.
To play golf in Costa Teguise will cost you 90 euros in the hight season and 73 euros in low season. Buggies, hand trollies, clubs and balls can all be rented. There are also storage facilities and buggy battery recharges available.
The course has a nice putting green and driving range. After the match is a wonderful bar and restaurant with a shaded terrace offering amazing views over the course on down to the sea.

Spa at Beatriz Hotel

If you are looking to relax and spoil yourself maybe the Hydrothermal spa and the Beatriz Hotel will suit you. The cost of the Costa Teguise spa is 12 euros for two hours. This is a hydrothermal circuit with two hydromassage pools, a foot bath, tepidarium, jacuzzi, saunas, hot and cold water showers and a turkish bath. There are also other treatments available that need pre booking like Relaxing massage, Green tea detox, Moisturising treatments, tired leg treatments and more.
