Punta mujeres is an example of a perfect traditional Lanzarote fishing village. To the visiting tourist it represents unspoiled Lanzarote, not far removed from how life would have been many years ago.

The small village of Punta Mujeres is located in the North East coast of Lanzarote for its fishing.

The East coast of Lanzarote is more sheltered from the winter storms and waves than the West Coast. The meandering coastline of Punta Mujeres creates shelter for the anchoring of fishing boats.

Location of Punta Mujeres

Punta Mujeres is located on the North East Coast of Lanzarote adjacent to the North of Arrieta.

Drive times to Punta Mujeres are fifteen minutes from Costa Teguise, thirty minutes from Puerto del Carmen and forty five minutes from Playa Blanca.

Only a few kilometres north of Punta Mujeres are the very popular tourist attractions of Jameos del Agua and the Cueva de lo Verdes.  A few minutes drive inland are the towns of  Haria and Maguez

Beaches and swimming in Punta Mujeres

Due to the rocky coastline of Punta Mujeres there are no beaches. If you want to have a swim there are several lovely natural pools created by the rocks then augmented with concrete access steps.

These pools have beautiful clear water for swimming in safety and look out over the ocean. Often close to the natural swimming pools are local bars to enjoy drinks and some tapas.

Eating and Restaurants in Punta Mujeres

Most of the bars and restaurants in Punta Mujeres serve local well priced food. The bars offer tapas plus some simple meals and bocadillos (rolls). There are a few really nice restaurants again serving good honest locally found and cooked dishes in a traditional Canarian style.

The range of food offered in the Punta Mujeres restaurants is fresh locally caught fish and seafood, meats and tapas. If you wish to eat at one of the Punta Mujeres restaurants its safer to make a reservation first especially on a Sunday afternoon.

Punta Mujeres is a picturesque unspoilt fishing based town. There is little traffic in this coastal village with meandering roads that are nice to walk along and explore. Round many corners you will come across nice bars, restaurants, promenades and other little discoveries. The authentic and traditional feel of Punta Mujeres is the basis of its magic and appeal. People are friendly and easy going, life has a relaxed and timeless pace that rubs off on its visitors.

Things to do in Punta Mujeres

Punta Mujeres is a town for exploring, swimming in the natural rock pools, walking, relaxing, eating and drinking. The lovely little fishing village has its own unique atmosphere. It’s a timeless place.

The natural pools are great for swimming, snorkelling then drying off and relaxing in the sun. The nearby bars lend themselves to split group activities where some can swim and others can have a few drinks at the bar in the knowledge that the swimmers are safe.

Do I need a hire car to visit Punta Mujeres

To get to Punta Mujeres a hire car is the most convenient method. There are bus services and taxis that will take you to Punta Mujeres but these are far more fuss than a hire car. Parking in Punta Mujeres is plentiful, easy to find and free.

Getting to Punta Mujeres

Punta Mujeres is an easy place to get to. Just take the main road of Lanzarote called the LZ1 North. You will find the town just past Arrieta. If you are arriving from the South head straight on at the Arrieta roundabout then take the next right. After about 2 kilometres you will see Punta Mujeres to the right, there are a few exits from the LZ1 that take you into the town.

Walking in and around Punta Mujeres

There are some really nice walks to be experienced in the town of Punta Mujeres and also along the coast to the North and South.

The town stretches its way along the coast, so walks within the town always give lovely views out across the sea. Punta Mujeres grew organically over the years and therefore has a lovely meandering natural way about it. It’s very easy to imagine how life was before tourism when times were simpler and slower paced.

At the Northern edge of Punta Mujeres there is good parking right on the coast then a fantastic coastal path heads north. This North headed coastal path firstly leads to Jameos del Agua a few kilometres away and, if you wish, way beyond as far as Orzola.

The walk along the coast to Jameos del Agua and back is a nice distance of around 8 kilometres.  If you want a longer walk than Punta Mujeres to Jameos del Agua it can be a good idea to use two cars, park one at the destination then drive back and start you walk in Punta Mujeres.

Walking South from Punta Mujeres takes you into Arrieta, Arrieta beach then on along the coast. This is another lovely Lanzarote walk that you can take as far as your endurance allows you.
