Lanzarote Airport
Lanzarote has one airport located on the coast between Playa Honda and Puerto del Carmen. The airports full name is Cesar Manrique Airport. The airport is also known as Arrecife Airport and the code is ACE. The aeroplane landed in 1941. Now over seven million passengers per year go through the airport.
Location
The airport is well located for the largest tourist resort of Puerto del Carmen at only a five minute drive. Costa Teguise is also close with a drive time of fifteen minutes. Playa Blanca at the southern tip of Lanzarote is a thirty minute drive. The closest urban location is Playa Honda. The capital of Arrecife is also a five minute drive.
Terminals
There are two terminals. Terminal 1 for international flights and Terminal 2 for local Canary Island flights.
Arrecife Airport Parking
Both terminals have ample short term parking. Long term parking at Arrecife Airport can be pre booked on line offering at 15% discount.
Terminal One international flights
Terminal 1 is broken into two sections for departures and arrivals. The departures are is on the upper floor and arrivals on the lower floor.
Departures – Departures is on the same level as the car park. As you enter departures you will see all the baggage check in desks. For those with hand luggage only you can self check in on the left side of the hall. You will need to have your passport ready and a boarding pass that can be scanned. The boarding pass can be on your phone or printed. Once through the check scanner you move on to the security check with the baggage x-ray machine, metal detector and search. After this section you walk through a meandering shop and then into the departures lounge. There are lots of shops for gifts, duty free, food and drink.
Flight times are displayed and many information boards throughout. Boarding your plane you will need to show your passport and boarding pass again then walk down the tunnel to the plane or take a short coach ride.
Arrivals
Arrivals is on the airport’s lower level. Once you land you walk to passport control. Have your passport ready. You then enter the arrivals lounge with the baggage carousels and hire car desks. The carousel with your baggage will display the flight number you arrived on. Once baggage is collected you can exit the lounge. Here there are the same hire car desks again. From arrivals you can get a coach at the far right side, you can get a taxi just outside or collect your hire car from the garage just across the road.
General function
The airport is modern and well sized. Queues are not too long and travels are dealt with in good time and efficiently. Once in the departure lounge there is plenty of seating with restaurants, shops and nice views across the runway and to the sea. Flight times to the UK and rest of Europe are in the four hour region.
